Nanotechnology Research Programs/Activities:

1. Growth of nanoparticles from the vapour phase using ultra-fast pulsed laser deposition.
2. Studies of linear and nonlinear optical properties of nanoparticles in various hosts
3. Silicon Nanophotonics
4. Nano-photonics with emphasis of photonic crystals  

Scale of Nanotechnology Research Effort:

Experimental work on laser deposition of nanoparticles carried out by Andrei Rode with support of Eugene Gamaly and a PhD student.

Work on optical properties of nano-composites overseen by Marek Samoc and Barry Luther-Davies and involving collaborators in Department of Electronic Materials Engineering (Elliman) and Uni. Melbourne (Mulvaney). Several staff and students involved.

New staff will be appointed into photonic crystal work plus new students
Budget difficult to estimate as work builds on funding for other projects. Estimate around 300k$ per annum
