Nanotechnology Research Programs/Activities:- Nonlinear Nanophotonics - nanowire waveguides, nano-membranes, and photonic crystals for all-optical switching, frequency conversion, etc.
- Nonlinear plasmonics - subwavelength light control due to plasmonic confinement
- Optical metamaterials - new materials created by nanostructuring of metal-dielectric structures.
Scale of Nanotechnology Research Effort:15 researchers and students are currently involved in the topic on both theoretical and experimental research. The approximate annual budget of these activities is of the order of 1M AUD.
Nanotechnology research facilities:- Theory: a number of numerical and analytical techniques to study the effect of light propagation
- Experiment: nano-photonics laboratory for spectral analysis of the fabricated samples, as well as telecom laser equipment for characterisation of the nonlinear response of the nano-structures.
