Nanotechnology Research Programs/Activities:

1) Energy scavenging for wireless sensors. This entails developing micro-generators that scavenge power from the environment, such as vibrations, wind, and pressure variations, in order to power stand-alone wireless sensors.

2) The Center for Sustainable Energy Systems (CSES), which is part of our department, has a large research effort on single crystal silicon photovoltaics.

Scale of Nanotechnology Research Effort:

The energy scavenging research effort, being new at to the ANU, is small. One faculty member, one honors student, and one PhD student.
CSES is very large, with about 20 full time staff.
