Current Research Activities
The control of optical fields using novel optical materials lies at the heart of the current nanotechnology revolution and offers unprecedented opportunities to enable novel functionalities. At the Department of Electronic Materials Engineering, Naeemís research is aimed at the development of novel optoelectronic devices based on artificially structured material systems, whose properties can be tailored by design to meet specific applications. One interesting example of such systems is that of photonic crystals which offer unprecedented control on photons and have emerged as an important new class of optical materials. The research in this area involves both theoretical and experimental activities, including design and simulations, device fabrication, and electrical and optical characterization. His research interest further includes optical materials: fabrication and characterization, nano-lithography techniques, top-down nanostructures, surface passivation schemes, coupled quantum well/dot-nanocavity systems and photonic crystal lasers. He is the author/coauthor of over 10 articles published in international journals and conference proceedings.
