Current Research Activities

Development and the application of computational tools (Quantum Mechanics, Molecular Dynamics, Lattice Dynamics) to the study of minerals and nanotubes of the aluminosilicate and carbonate family:
- Computational tools for the ab initio simulation of carbon and inorganic nanotubes
- Thermodynamics of the curling process of mineral nanotubes
- Structure and composition of olivines, pyroxenes and serpentines; processes and catalysis at the corresponding mineral/fluid interface
- Biomineralisation, nucleation, crystal growth and polymorphism
- Vibrational spectroscopy of minerals
- Performance of Density Functional Theory and post-Hartree-Fock methods in predicting the properties of mineral systems
