Welcome
*************
Dear Members, welcome to the seventh edition of the ARCNN News.
We hope you have all had a good Easter break.
Professor Ric Kaner's ARCNN Distinguished Lecturer tour to Sydney, Canberra , Melbourne, Hobart and Brisbane went well. His lecture on the topic Processable Polyaniline Nanofibres for Flash Welding, Sensors and Actuators was very well received. A video recording on CD of the lecture given by Professor Kaner at the Research School of Physical Sciences and Engineering, ANU Canberra, on Tuesday 21st February 2006, is now available. If you would like a complimentary copy of the CD, please email your name and postal address to:arcnn@ausnano.net
We also had a visit from Dr Murali Sastry, Chief Scientist at the Tata Chemicals Innovation Centre in Mumbai, India on the 18th of April at the Australian National University. He gave a seminar on "Biology inspired Nanomaterials" and we also have made a CD of his talk. If you are interested in getting a complemenatry copy of this CD, please send an email to Liz or Ilonka at: arcnn@ausnano.net.
We have submitted the network Annual Report including all of our events held during 2005 to the ARC. A Copy is available on the ARCNN webpage.
Congratulations to Mr Thomas Rufford from the School of Engineering at the University of Queensland for being elected as the new student representative on the ARCNN Management Committee. Thanks to Ms. Fang Xie for her excellent efforts during the past year as a student representative on the Management Committee.
The program for ICONN 2006 is looking great with many high profile plenary and invited speakers participating in the conference. We received more than 280 abstracts and we will have 4 parallel sessions including 2 poster sessions. Look forward to seeing most of you in Brisbane.
I look forward to your involvement in ARCNN,

Update profiles, address changes etc
*******************************************
Please remember to advise address and email changes so that the ARCNN member database is kept up to date. Your current details can be checked on your online profile at http://www.ausnano.net/index.php?page=profiles.
If you have not submitted an online profile, I would encourage you to do so as this provides a valuable resource for researchers seeking collaboration with people who have experience or expertise in a particular nanotechnology area. A search facility is provided on the Members Profiles webpage. Researchers looking to fill postdoc positions may also use the member database to locate students with research interests and experience in particular fields.
Overseas Travel Fellowships
************************************
The February round of the Overseas Travel Fellowships attracted 12 applicants. These applications are being evaluated and the candidates will be notified of the outcome by mail. The successful applications will be published on our website shortly. Applications will be ranked and Fellowships will be awarded to the highest ranked applications. Full details, eligibility criteria, application guidelines and application forms for the August round are now available at http//www.ausnano.net/content/funding_and_sponsorship.
International Conference on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology
******************************************************************************
ICONN 2006 will be held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre from 3 - 7 July 2006. The aim of the conference is to bring together the Australian and International community (students, scientists and engineers from academia, government laboratories, and industry) working in the field of nanoscale science and technology to discuss new and exciting advances in the field. Confirmed plenary speaker list and symposia chairs list is available on the ICONN web page. Please feel free to print it and post it on notice boards to draw the attention of the nanotechnology community to the conference.

Young Science Ambassadors Program
***********************************************
ARCNN management committee approved funding to create a new program to encourage Ph.D. students to visit Schools in their states/territories to give talks on Nanotechnology to inspire students about this emerging field. Further details about this program will be posted soon on the ARCNN webpage.
International Journal of Nanotechnology: Special Issue on Nanotechnology in Australia
****************************************************************************
International Journal of Nanotechnology is planning to bring out a special issue on Nanotechnology in Australia. Guest editors for this Special Issue are C. Jagadish, Anita Hill(CSIRO) and Peter Majewski(UniSA). Special issue will feature invited papers as well as contributed papers and the deadline for submission of manuscrIpts is August 31 2006.
