Welcome to this special, extra edition of the ARCNN News.
We would like to bring the following items to your attention.

International Conference on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology - Travel Grants
******************************************************************************

The ARCNN Management Committee has decided that , considering that $210,000 of the budget has been allocated for supporting Plenary and Invited Speakers as well as ECRs and students presenting papers (presenting author only), there will be no Travel Grants offered for attending the Conference.

Fully refereed conference proceedings will be published by IEEE Publishing Co., Piscataway, NJ, USA and a CD of the proceedings will be provided to all participants of ICONN 2006. Papers will also be posted on the IEEExplore database and are accessible to the international community.

Upcoming Distinguished Lecturer Tours -Expression of Interest

Three Distinguished Lecturers will be visiting Australia in June and July 2006.
Sir Professor Michael Pepper, FRS from Cambridge University will be visiting Australia from the 26th to the 30th of June. His area of expertise is Electron transport properties of low dimensional systems.
Professor Henry Smith from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology will also be visiting Australia from the 26th to the 30th of June. His area of expertise is nanofabrication,electronic and photonic devices, and novel applications of nanostructures.
Professor Heinrich Hofmann, EPFL, Lausanne will be visiting Australia from the 10th to the 14th of July. His area of expertise includes the synthesis of nanostructured materials based on nanoparticles using colloidal methods and their application in drug delivery, medical imaging, ....

Expressions of interest are sought from members for Sir Professor Michael Pepper, Prof Henry Smith and Prof Heinrich Hofmann to visit their institution during their DL tour.
Please email your request by the 15th of May 2006 to arcnn@ausnano.netso that based on the feedback we will try to accommodate requests within the constraints of the time available.

Overseas Travel Fellowships

Congratulations to winners of the ARCNN overseas travel fellowships

Mr. Michael Fraser, Australian National University (to visit Stanford University)
Mr Jacek Jasieniak, University of Melbourne (to visit University of Padova)
Miss Christina Cortez, University of Melbourne (to visit CNRS and UNiversity of Louis Pasteur, Strasbourg)
Mr Dane McCamey, University of New South Wales (to visit Walter Schottky Institute, TUMunich)

Next round of overseas travel fellowship applications are due on 31st August 2006 and further details could be found at: http://www.ausnano.net/content/overseas_travel. Students and ECRs attending international summer/winter schools (1 week or preferably longer duration) are also eligible to apply for these fellowships.

Young Nanotechnology Ambassador Awards
******************************************************
Funding is now available for Postgraduate Students to visit Schools in their states/territories to give talks on Nanotechnology to students about this emerging field of science. Two awards will be made per state/territory in 2006 and each award is valued up to $2000 ($1000 will be paid to the student as an honorarium and up to $1000 towards travel, accommodation and other expenses). The closing date for the 2006 round is the 31st of May. Full details,eligibility criteria, funding guidelines and application form are now available on http://www.ausnano.net/content/funding_and_sponsorship
