The rapidly emerging areas of nanoscale science and technology are focussed on the design, fabrication, and characterisation of functional objects having dimensions at the nanometer length scale. New advances in this field are expected to have long-range implications in a wide variety of different scientific and engineering disciplines. The importance of nanoscale science is growing worldwide and it is now widely recognised as a critical component to the future growth of the world economy. Following the successful NanoE3 Australian-Italian workshops in 2007, 2008, 2011 and 2013 this fifth edition (NanoS-E3) will broaden the topics area to sensors and nanotechnology and will be opened to other international scientists. Through this international Workshop and School, the scientists will be able to exchange their knowledge and research in the field of nanotechnology focusing on sensors, electronics, energy and environment as well as to establish fruitful collaborations and extend the existing one. It will be very beneficial for both Australia and Italy to continue and build up the existing scientific networks connecting scientists belonging to similar areas of sensors and nanotechnology. The respective strengths of both nations will be brought together, to create new synergies from which leading edge outcomes are expected. This workshop will also include scientists from other countries (e.g. France, Germany, Japan, Canada and U.S), which are leaders in their specific fields.
