Nanotechnology Research Programs/Activities:
Besides other researchers in the proposed network, in my research I am concerned with electronic and optical properties of conjugated molecules such as oligophenylenes and oligoacenes. Such molecules have been the subject of sustained interest from technologists seeking to to build nano-technological devices. Their electro-optical, particularly nonlinear optical, properties are important for device applications. These are precisely the properties which I seek to model.
Scale of Nanotechnology Research Effort:
In this theoretical area there is presently only myself at UNSW. I am supported by an external ARC Fellowship, total funding around $80K p.a. I also make regular use of the Gordon Godfrey Bequest to host visitors, typically c.a. $3K p.a.
