Micro and nano systems have demonstrated enormous potential for biomedical and environmental applications, given their unique characteristics at micro and nano dimension. For example, the flow in microfluidics and nanofluidics will be largely laminar, which has played a pivotal role in revolutionising a number of advanced technologies, such as microarray, separation technology, lab-on-a-chip, micro-propulsion, and micro-thermal technologies.Scale of Nanotechnology Research Effort:
Professor: 1Research fellows: 6
Support staff: 1
PhD students: 20
Nanotechnology research facilities:
Advanced materials characterization within the Institute for Frontier Materials (IFM) at Deakin University.Focus on porous functional materials for drug delivery, membrane separation, smart composite materials for nano-electronics, molecular dynamics (simulation of membrane processes at the nano scale).
