Gene BiosensorsNovel DNA sensor technologies based on conducting polymers, photoluminescent polymers and inorganic crystals for rapid and sensitive gene detection.
Sensing Oxidants and Antioxidants
Electrochemical based sensor technologies using inert electrodes and conducting polymers as redox mediators.
Responsive Membranes / Hybrid Plastics
Incorporation of conducting polymers and nanoparticles into conventional plastics to create composites with antimicrobial and antioxidant properties.
Nanostructured Materials
Investigation of self-assembled conducting polymer systems and applications that exploit their structural characteristics.
Conducting Polymer Actuators and Micropumps
Development of actuating and strain gauge systems based upon the ion and solvent movement involved in conducting polymer redox processes, and their inclusion in devices.
Further medical and engineering applications
Additional project areas including conducting polymer wound-dressings, membranes, organic film transistors, and drug delivery.
Microfabrication
Project work involving the University of Auckland Microfab facility and clean room.
