Two-dimensional atomically thin materialsTopological insulators, exciton superfluids, light-transformed materials
Nano-device fabrication
Scanning probe techniques (STM, AFM)
Developing low-energy electronic technologies via systems in which electrical current can flow with near-zero resistance (ultra-low dissipation conduction)
Scale of Nanotechnology Research Effort:
The FLEET network currently comprises of 19 chief investigators at seven Australian institutions, 16 partner investigators at 13 institutions worldwide, and over 100 HDR students and postdoctoral fellows. The team is highly interdisciplinary with high-profile researchers from atomic physics, condensed matter physics, materials science, electronics, nanofabrication and atomically thin materials.
With over $40M investment from the Australian Research Council and contributing organisations, FLEET aims to build capacity for advanced electronics research in Australia and train the workforce for the next generation of electronic materials researchers and future semiconductor industry.
Nanotechnology research facilities:
UHV Low-T Scanning Tunnelling Microscopy with in-situ growth, surface modification and electronic transport measurementsAngle-Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy capability at the Australian Synchrotron
Photon lithography and E-beam lithography routine techniques for device fabrication
Magnetic measurements: DC magnetometry, AC magnetometry and quantum oscillations
Electron and spin transport measurements: electric field gated device, quantum oscillations, point contact AndreeV reflection, electrical-magneto coupling
