Nanotechnology Research Programs/Activities:

• Light alloy design and characterisation at the atomic scale (HRTEM, Atom Probe).
• Measurement of composition and electronic structure of advanced and nano-materials at the atomic scale by EELS.
• Synthesis, characterisation and applications of a wide range of inorganic nano-particles, with controlled morphologies.
• Fundamental studies of processing-structure and structure-property relationships in polymer nanocomposites (various nano-fillers).
• Synthesis and characterisation of advanced optical fibres.
• Tomographical characterisation of raw materials used in Australian metallurgical industries.
• Development of computational methods for advanced image analysis in 2D and 3D data sets.
• Design of components and systems in light-driven molecular biotechnology.
• Synthesis and characterisation of inorganic nanocomposites (e.g., diamond nanocrystals in SiO2).
• Nanomechanics and damage mechanisms of thin films.
• Investigation of charge transport and recombination in wide band gap materials by nuclear microscopy.
• High-resolution characterisation of advanced ceramics.
