Current Research Activities

A one pot synthesis technique for preparing iron oxide nanoparticles with controlled size, phase, morphology and magnetic properties has been developed. Careful tailoring of the particle surface improved it biocompatibility and reduced the size of the nanoparticles aggregates to less than 200 nm. Low toxicity and small size are pertinent to the use of the particles in vivo. This study also demonstrates the potential of using flame-spray made magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles as a non-viral vector to enhance transfection efficiency.
