Current Research Activities
Project: The influence of nanoparticle protein corona formation on the immunotoxicity of metal oxide nanoparticles.Nanomaterials 1-100nm (virus like size) have unique physical and chemical properties as compared to bulk counterparts and are used widely. Metal oxide nanoparticles such as zinc oxide (ZnO) and titanium dioxide (TiO2) possess excellent UV absorption capacity and are transparent at the nano-level and are extensively used in sunscreen formulations, paints, electronics, personal care and medical products. The field of nanotechnology is rapidly advancing; however there is a lack of detailed information on potential risks of exposure to nanomaterials. The main aim of this PhD project is to study the cellular interactions of nanoparticles as well as protein binding immunotoxicity of ZnO nanoparticles with complex biological systems using in vitro cell culture and in vivo animal modelling .This information can be used towards generating bio-compatible nanomaterials for future applications.
