Molecular modelling of insulin and IGF-1 binding to their receptors

We are interested in understanding how insulin and insulin-like growth factor (IGF) bind to their receptors at the atomic level of detail. Whilst the structures of insulin, IGF and various components of their receptors is known, a structure of the complete complexes has yet to be determined. There exists, however, sufficient structural information to construct molecular models of these complexes. These models may provide insight into the mechanism of ligand-dependent signalling in insulin, or assist in the design of agonists of the IGF receptor (IGF-1R). Therapeutics targeting IGF‑1R in cancer are under the intensive development by the pharmaceutical industry.
