Surface physics and chemistry of oxides, minerals, semiconductors and polymers;
Surface modification of materials including plasma surface modification;
Bioactive materials and surface layers;
Application and development of surface and analytical techniques in minerals and materials processing, surface modification, activation processes, particles and powders, thin films, L-B films and self assembled monolayers, forensic and environmental science, biological systems;
Surface and near surface analytical techniques (including synchrotron science) - X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and synchrotron radiation XPS (SR-XPS), scanning Auger microscopy (SAM), secondary ion mass spectroscopy (SIMS), Rutherford backscattering spectrometry (RBS), proton induced X-ray emission (PIXE), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), XANES/EXAFS, micro-XRF/XAS, tomography.
